Throughout our history as human beings, many incredibly talented persons have existed who thrilled us with their ingenuity and utter brilliance as they came out with many inventions that have made life a whole lot better for us all. Inventions like the electricity and the internet are so important that it is hard to think of life without them. However other inventions have emerged which are quite pointless and have left us wondering what the inventors were imagining when they began working on them. Some of these creations never even got to get off the ground.
Below are some of the Weird Inventions we are talking about.
1. Tomatan – The Tomato-Feeding Robot
Now, this is one invention that has gotten us all really intrigued. The Tomatan is a wearable robot that feeds you tomatoes. Yes, you read that right; it feeds you tomatoes! In fact, Tomatan’s only job is to feed its owner some tomatoes while the person runs.
Tomatan was invented by Kagome, a Japanese juice vendor and it is designed to sit in a small harness behind the wearer’s head, with visibly long metal arms which are extended on both side of the person’s face. The device proceeds to pull out some tomatoes and put them directly into the person’s mouth while they exercise by running.
The high-tech robot which was originally created for the Tokyo Marathon is designed with a timer. This means that the wearer is condemned to follow a pattern and not consume the tomatoes too quickly.
One cannot help but wonder why anyone would want to eat tomatoes while running.
Below is a video demonstrating how Tomatan works.
2. Fliz – The Foot-Powered Bicycle
If you thought that Tomatan was the weirdest invention you’ve ever seen, then be prepared to get a shock with the tale of the creation of Fliz.
Apparently, fliz is a bicycle but not the type of bicycle you have ever seen or may want to try riding. Anyway, read on and see for yourself.
Fliz is the original idea of German designers, Tom Hambrock and Juri Spetter, and it is a bicycle which was created to operate without any pedals, gears or even saddle.
- How Fliz Works
Fliz is built as a single, lightweight frame with two wheels on both ends which allows the user to hang on a harness and dangle between the two wheels. Instead of actually pedaling the bicycle forward, the user is required to run and push to get the bicycle moving. As soon as they have gathered some speed, they would then rest their feet on the back wheel while using the handlebars to steer their way around.
Below is a video demonstrating the fliz works.
3. The Group Shaving Machine
This one takes us way back to the 19th-century. Apparently, the drive to make weird inventions did not start from today.
The group shaving machine was invented to actually shave about a dozen men all at once. Can you believe that? The machine shaves 12 full grown men at the same time! The men are all required to sit in a line while the machine moves across their faces, shaving off the hair on their chins.
However, the group shaving machine was actually a commercial failure. This was because it never got to alter its movement to match the different faces of men seeking a shave.
4. Grass Flip-Flops
Have you ever wondered what it is like to wear shoes but actually feel like you’re walking barefoot on grass? Then this one is for you.
The Flip-flops is quite strange because of the fact that it gives you the same sensation you have of walking on grass even when you are actually wearing shoes. The Flip-flop is able to give the wearer the sensation of walking on grass because it’s sole is covered by synthetic grass which in fact, spings out under the feet in all directions.
Essentially, with Flip-flops, you are wearing shoes but at the same time, are not wearing any shoes. Did you get that?
Well…
5. Boyfriend Body Pillow
This is an invention that, even though quite bizarre, gives some succour to singletons. So if you are a singleton, you might want to pay some attention to this.
The Boyfriend Body Pillow is created to try and give the owner the actual comfort that a companion can give them. The pillow is designed to look like a half-torso and a soft arm. The design allows the user to insert themselves into its firm grasp and then feel like they are actually being pampered and cajoled to sleep.
What makes the design even more bizarre is the fact the half-torso is actually dressed in a half-shirt.
6. The Umbrella For The Avid Rain-Avoider
Ok, so this one is a little freaky. Most people try as much as possible to avoid getting too wet when they step out during a rainfall. However, there are others who do not want even one single drop to fall on them. If you are in this category, this is one invention you should try checking out.
This umbrella which is designed in Japan is an invention to cater for those who have a genuine fear of getting wet from the rain. Most umbrellas simply have canopies that open out to protect users from rain, however, this umbrella does not stop there, it goes on to have a round nylon covering that extends from its stretchers right to user’s feet. Talk about complete shelter!
7. Nose Stylus
Here come the nose stylus – just when you think you’ve seen it all, right?
Ok, so the Nose Stylus is an invention by a British man named Dominic Wilcox based in Hackey, London, and its job is to help its user multi-task while using their phone.
In other words, the Nose Stylus is built for one purpose; to allow users to be able to keep one hand free in order to perform other tasks while they are operating their phones.
In cold countries where most people wear gloves and would not want to remove their gloves to operate their mobile, the nose stylus comes handy.
The nose stylus is designed to be attached to the user’s nose with an elastic band. Its user is supposed to use it to simply peck at their phone’s display screen and do what want to do.
8. The Umbrella Tie
We are not finished with those who fear rain just yet. This is another invention for them all the way from Japan.
The umbrella tie, as the name implies, is a tie, but not in the usual sense of it. This tie is actually an umbrella that hangs around the neck. The handle is hidden way down inside the coverings provided by the wearer’s suit and the ends of its canopy are folded and strapped around the user’s neck using a tiny rope.
This invention is for those who can’t decide if the rain will fall or not.
9. Anti-Pervert Hairy Stockings
No, these are not a man’s legs. These legs belong to a woman who is actually wearing hairy stockings – the Anti-Pervert Hairy Stockings.
The Anti-Pervert Hairy Stockings is another invention that has come across as a really weird one. Women with a fear of being attacked by rapists or sexual molesters are the ones for whom this invention has been made.
The idea of the hairy stockings is to make the wearer look unattractive and so prevent potential sexual predators from making a move.
10. Dine-Ink Pen Cap Eating Utensils
This is an invention for workaholics who are apparently to busy to go out and eat. The dine-ink pen cap is actually an eating utensil that comes as pen caps.
So the workaholic who is too busy writing even to get up from their seat and get some food, can easily just dip the “utensil” into their snack and “yum”…throw the food behind their throats.
Apparently, the dine-ink pen cap was designed to fend for people who feel that going out to eat with real utensils while at work is a hassle.
