A woman in the United Kingdom has become the first cancer patient to have her uterus and colon removed by robots in what has attracted attention around the world over the rather unheard of procedure.
Without a shadow of doubt, some really serious advancement that is constantly being made in the world of technology has spread to the medical aspect of science as the use of technology becomes rife around the world.
It is now no news at all that doctors are increasingly relying on technology and artificial intelligence to render treatment to the many persons seeking help to end their medical woes around the world.
In more advanced countries, the contemporary concept of having technology help in the treatment of patients is becoming more and more a reality and patients are said to be really comfortable with the medical procedure as they come.

1. It Is From The United Kingdom
The woman who has been identified as Christine Lockton is from Croydon which happens to be a large town in the south of Greater London, the United Kingdom. The woman is now 63 years old but it is now clear yet if she is married or has any kids.
2. She Was Diagnosed With Colorectal Cancer
This was apparently a devastating development for Christine Lockton.
The woman was down with colorectal cancer which has plagued her since September 2017. Colorectal cancer is also referred to as bowel cancer and colon cancer. This is because the disease forms and comes to life with the development of cancer from the colon or rectum which happens to be parts of the large intestine.
Lockton who has been seeking treatment to help her finally found help recently with the decision to use the pioneering treatment on her.

Before her treatment, the woman had suffered the usual symptoms associated with cancer which includes the dramatic loss of weight and the total loss of hair. Having had breast cancer before this new diagnosis, Lockton was completely heartbroken about how her life has taken a tumble for the worse. But she embarked on a search for treatment.
3. She Was Treated By Robots
Ms Lockton was treated by robots in hospital aided by doctors who sat at opposite ends of the technological creations. Did you read that? She was treated by robots. Artificial intelligence is taking over the medical sector bit by bit.
The woman was admitted in hospital for the operation. During the operation, surgeons sat at opposite ends of a robotic console while they performed the operation, the Daily Mail UK reports.
Created for the sole purpose of carrying out the operation, the robots that took part in the surgery had ‘arms’ that are known as the da Vinci Xi console. The console is supposed to allow doctors to make tiny movements while removing ‘all natural human tremor’.
Daily Mail UK also reports that “the ‘hands’ are able to rotate 360 degrees, enabling them to access hard-to-reach tumours.”
Apparently, this is sending clear signals of the ability of robots to do certain things that doctors would be usually scared to do so as not to cause damage to the patient involved in the medical procedure.
4. Her Treatment Was Done Through A Pioneering Surgical Procedure
The kind of treatment Lockton had in hospital and the procedure it followed has not been seen or used before this time. This is why it is called a “pioneering procedure”; a previously unheard of process.
Ms. Lockton has now become the very first cancer patient in the world to undergo a treatment of that nature with robots involved.
5. The Treated Was Not Free
Even though it was a pioneering surgical procedure, Lockton’s surgery was not entirely free, it has been revealed.
The woman’s surgery was reportedly funded by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, in the USA. She was made to undergo a robotic procedure after a course of radio and chemotherapy in the month of March after which she then settled in hospital for the operation.
Many people have had differing views on this new development that sees robots being able to perform surgeries and bring absolute relief to sick people around the world. For some people, this is a powerful creation of technology that will, in the long run, make sure that human beings are better off when it comes to getting treatment in hospitals. They make reference to the fact these tiny robots can, in fact, reach certain places in the human body that the human eyes cannot reach ordinarily.
