The human mind is almost always busy and the busier it gets, the more people develop the drive to create things; to make things happen, to change the world especially via technological inventions. Over the years, we have seen evidence of this in the mind-blowing inventions that have been given life by people who sat down to react to the demands of their busy minds and make sure they have settled for nothing less but excellence.
In the past half century, so many technological inventions have been birthed that it is quite difficult to name them all, but one thing we all can attest to is that our lives have been affected immensely by these inventions; these powerful creations by men with a drive so strong it cannot settle for mediocrity.

- The Internet
Now, this is one thing that has arguably affected the human race more than any other thing. In fact, this entire list will totally be deemed defective without this one invention added to it.
The internet is simply a worldwide system of computer networks which has succeeded in bringing the entire world populace together. The internet has reduced the entire world into a small community where information can be gotten from any part of the globe at the blink of an eye. In previous times, information traveled very slowly and people had to wait for a long time to get news of happenings from places far from where they lived, but the coming of the internet has completely changed that. Now, you can connect with people and places that are actually thousands of miles from where you are, and all that within seconds. Awesome!
People around the world have become so used to and addicted to the internet that it is quite difficult to imagine life without it. Information on any subject you seek is handy, meeting new people of different races has never been easier, news spread like wild fire when things happen and the world feels more drawn together like a small community.
Indeed, with the internet, nothing will ever be same.
2. Organ Transplant
Have you ever imagined what it would feel like if a person in need of kidney transplant cannot get help because there is no technology to aid in organ transplant? We cannot begin to fathom just how grateful we are to Dr Joseph Murray who kick-started the organ transplant movement by performing the world’s first successful renal transplant between identical twins on 23rd December, 1954.
Soon after, new technologies were developed to facilitate better ways of achieving organ transplant. Today, more than 60 years later, countless people around the world have a reason to smile because of this creation borne out of pure ingenuity.
With the coming of organ transplant, the world has been changed forever with the field of medicine receiving a massive boost.
3. Mobile Phones
It is impossible to make a list of world-changing innovations without including this child of incredible technological breakthrough.
The mobile phone has completely revolutionized the human race. Our whole lives revolve around its usage. Even the internet which controls nearly everything we do in the contemporary world is accessed a lot more using mobile phones.
Mobile phones have, in conjunction with the internet, helped to bring the whole world together, reducing it to a mere community where everyone can be reached without much ado.
To really understand how much our lives have changed with the coming of the mobile phones, flash back to how life used to be some 20 years ago in Nigeria when mobile phones were nonexistent. Remember how trying to look for people used to be a completely herculean task. You could walk to a person’s house only to find out they have just left the place. You have no idea where they are now and no matter how urgent you need to see them, all you can do is to just wait till you chance upon them next. A hard life, right?
Yes, mobile phones have simplified that experience for us and given us even more.
4. Personal Computers
The coming of personal computers, (PCs) has changed life from what it used to be like. Before the coming of PCs, owning computers was such a big deal. Some 40 years ago, a mini-computer was the size of the modern washing machine. Few people had the ‘privilege’ to own one as theirs.
Fast forward to 2018, everything has changed. Personal computers, the sizes of which have been reduced drastically over the years, have been developed and everyone can have one as theirs.
Writers have better chances at creating masterpieces and releasing their pent-up emotions through their imaginations expressed in words. Before PCs, writers had to rely on typists who are usually hired to work tirelessly on their typewriters for a very long time to meet targets. Now, writers themselves can type their works and draft their ideas in the process.
Artistes and businessmen have found the PC a completely irreplaceable tool in their work. Diaries are kept, games are played to cool off after a hard day’s work and messages are traded across the world with friends.
PCs have changed the world.
5. Electronic Fund Transfer
This is one thing that has totally changed the way we use and trade money in our contemporary world. Money can now be sent from one person to another instantaneously without having to visit the bank.
In previous times, one would have to queue up at the bank with big a big wad of cash in hand to pass on to the cashier who would then punch some keys on his computer and register the deposit. After that, the depositor would have to wait for some minutes for confirmation.
These days, business is easier carried out with the coming of the electronic fund transfer. From the comfort of your home, you can trade with people you have never met and you can move about without having to carry too much cash on you.
The world truly has evolved and these technological inventions have helped it come of age.
