Design & Structure
One eye-catching aspect of this smartphone is its slim nature which is just 71.1 millimeters wide in my hands, and you can imagine how surprised I was when I discovered that its screen size is 5.7 inches. At this 5.7 inches screen size, the Camon CM is more comfortable to hold and operate than many other smartphones of similar size. The secret is in its 18:9 aspect ratio, implies that the phone’s bezels (especially those on the sides) have been shrunk, and the phone is now longer and slimmer.
The design of the Tecno Camon CM is also something worth talking about; it emulates a modern smartphone design language. The form of the antenna lines can only be seen in recent smartphones. Aside from the notification LED, front camera and its accompanying LED flash on the top bezel, the face is completely blank. The rear which is non-removable harbors the main camera, quad-LED flash, and branding information about the device.
The notification LED blinks when the screen is off and you have unread notifications, and stays on when the phone is charging. Its functionality is basic, though; unlike some other smartphones that display different LED colors for different events, the Camon CM’s notification LED only displays a blue color, and it only works for charging and notifications. The aluminum one body design on the Camon CM may not be the best you can get on a smartphone, but it’s considerably due to its price tag. The fingerprint sensor on the rear works well with a fast response time and high success rate.
Performance & Memory
This device has the Quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT6735 processor powering the Camon CM’s operations ideal for a moderate budget The smartphone performs well in daily routine, and I noticed some lag when running high-end games and apps on it. I was able to play most games without trouble on the device. On one hand, you will agree with me that with a 2GB of RAM, you can’t expect to keep too many apps in memory. On the other hand, that is what most other phones at this price range and even above, come with.
Camon CM comes with a 16GB of internal memory out of which 8.02GB has formed the default memory. For a smartphone in 2018, that’s quite insufficient, but you can still insert an external microSD card with of up to 128GB in the space dedicated for that, and It would have been preferable if the smartphone came with at least 32GB of inbuilt memory capacity.
Camera
The Tecno Camon series comes with 13MP cameras both on the front and rear. They take very clear pictures in the abundance of light, while the low-light photography is aided by the very bright quad-LED flash system on the rear, and single LED with screen flash on the front. What this means is that for selfies, this may just be the choice for you, just as it also works great for regular snapshots.
Battery, Connectivity & Hardware
The 3,000mAh battery on the Camon CM gives you an average battery life of 12 hours when fully charged and with constant usage. The truth is that this is not the biggest battery life you can get, but since the device is a budget-friendly device isn’t bad. The company claims that the phone has quick charging. You will get more battery life if you combine the various battery saving options available in the smartphone.
The smartphone’s speaker is located beneath it on the right side, and sound quality is no different from the regular. The speaker is not very loud, but it’s also not too low; everything is average. The Camon CM has a multi-purpose slot on the left side that can take two Nano SIM cards and a micro SD card simultaneously.
The Camon CM series supports 4G LTE Bands 3 (1800MHz), 7 (2600MHz), 20 (800MHz), 28 (700MHz) and 40 (2300MHz), which means it supports all major 4G LTE networks operational in the country.
Software
The Tecno Camon CM runs on Android 7.0 Nougat along with version 3.2.0 of Tecno’s HiOS layered on top. However, there is some bloatware on the Camon CM, that you can’t just uninstall many of them without rooting the device. The device only has the basic sensors like light sensor, proximity sensor, and accelerometer.
