While science and technology keep shifting back the boundaries of impossibilities, there have been diseases it is still yet to fully understand, or have a cure for.
You may think that most of these diseases are suffered only by the poor or others but not the celebrities. Nothing, however, can be more wrong. Wiredbugs today takes a look at some diseases some celebrities have been suffering from for quite some time.
Salena Gomez
Since 2015, Salena Gomez has been suffering from what is known as Lupus, which is an autoimmune disease that makes the immune system attack healthy organs and tissues. The thing with this disease is that it can go on to cause damage to joints, skin, kidneys, blood, the heart, and lungs.
Rumors that the singer might be suffering from the disease began in 2013 after she had canceled her Australian tour. In 2015, however, she admitted that she was suffering from the disease to Billboard.
She revealed to the magazine that the disease could have led to her having a stroke. “I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a–holes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
What is Lupus Disease?
Although this disease according to statistics affects only 8 percent of the population, it is nonetheless fatal. More so, the disease is reported to affect more women than men. This is as those 7b percent of those infected are women and it runs in the family.
Also, it is mostly common in people between 12 and 25 years old. Probably because Selena said she was undergoing a Chemotherapy, some people actually thought the disease was lupus cancer. The two diseases are said to be two different things.
We may not be able to tell exactly the type of Lupus disease Selena Gomez is suffering from. According to the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA), there are four types: Systemic lupus, cutaneous lupus, drug-induced lupus (brought on by meds), and neonatal lupus which is very rare.
In case you are wondering if Selena Gomez’s health disease has a cure, the answer is simply no. Its symptoms, however, can be treated by doctors using anti-inflammatory and steroid tablets, as well as pills for stress and medication for breathing problems. Cancer-fighting drugs can also be used in some cases.
