Just the way cars have airbags to protect people in case of car accidents, so also we are now beginning to see the development of phone airbag with the most important reason of saving your phone from any form of damage in the case of a phone accident.
Although it is only in the prototype stage, there is hardly no reason to suggest that the technology which has already been patented would not work. With the technology, once your phone senses that it is falling down, the airbag will immediately be triggered and that will help prevent it from breaking once it gets to hit the floor.
Facts to know about the Phone Airbag
Invention
The phone airbag is an invention by a German student, Philip Frenzel to not only protect your phone but to also provide an option to the existing phone cases some of which come be rather bulky. That is not to suggest that this will not also be bulky, but it is a slim option for the larger phone cases. Known as the AD (active dampening) phone case, it has been patented by Frenzel.
Philip Frenzel is a student at Aalen University in Germany, and he is still working on the ADCASE. Already, he has landed an award from the German Society for Mechatronics. He decided to take up the challenge of inventing the protection after his iPhone fell to the ground and got damaged a few years ago.
Design and Function
The active dampening (AD) phone case is designed in the same way as your typical phone case. The only difference is that this is quite slim. It is designed with four springs on the edges of the case that don’t get to show until when they are needed. The functioning is pretty straight forward. It has a sensor which transmits to the case when the phone is falling to the ground. Immediately, the phone airbag will be activated and the springs would release on all sides so that however the phone falls, it will not hit the ground. Instead, it will sit on the legs of the airbag.
It comes with a 360 degree protection, and once the spring is released, all you need to do is to set it and push them back in. It allows for both wireless and charging with wire.
Things it cannot do for now
Of course, there is hardly a single technology that will give you coverage for all problems you can think. Hence, this also has its own limitations as regards the things it can do. The phone airbag will not prevent your smartphone from damaging if you step on the phone or if it falls into the water. Therefore, the only protection you get is against when it falls down.

In addition, the ground where it falls will need to be flat for you to be able to be protected since the airbag sits on its four legs on the ground that are 30mm high.
Availability
As stated, the case is still being worked upon by the manufacturers, and it is expected to hit the shelves as soon as possible. However, the first sets that are being worked upon are iPhones.
