Scientists have attempted to do everything including creating life and other crazy things. What now seem very interesting is that they have begun a journey towards unmasking Jesus’s DNA. Yes the DNA of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
This attempt was triggered by a finding by Kasimir Popkonstantinov of what he believed to be the bones of John the Baptist.
Popkonstantinov came across what he was sure were the bones of the disciple of Jesus when he was excavating a 5th-century monastery on the Sveti Ivan Island near Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea.
The remains which consisted of a small fragment of a skull, bones from a jaw and an arm, as well as a tooth, were found embedded in an altar in the ruins of the monastery.
After the bones were found in 2010, the world was not convinced the claim was true. Two years later, however, the archeologists returned to state that after more testing, they still maintained that the remains were of John the Baptist.
Knowing the truth about the bones of John The Baptist may be difficult because there are different places around the world claiming to have some of his remains including a Grand Mosque in Damascus where it is alleged that the head of the saint is at, and different places all claiming to have the right hand of the prophet.
More so, countries including Turkey, Greece, Italy, and Egypt, all around the Mediterranean are all claiming to have some part of the disciple.
Nevertheless, it is based on the finding of these alleged bones of John The Baptist by Kasimir Popkonstantinov that scientists are attempting to pull find out Jesus’s DNA.
The key here is that since John The Baptist was also a cousin of Jesus, the two should naturally share the same DNA, as such finding his DNA would help in finding Jesus’s DNA.
Other attempts at finding Jesus’s DNA
This is not the first attempt by scientists at discovering the true identity or at least the DNA of Jesus.
One attempt was made analyzing the Shroud of Turin which is believed by many to be the burial cloth of Jesus. The shroud which is still on display at the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy, has been a subject of much debate.
While many are of the belief that it was indeed real, others do not agree. In fact, those that do not agree with its authenticity chose the bible as well as the claim by Bishop Pierre d’Arcis that it was forged, to argue their case.
More so, it has been claimed that Pope Clement also acknowledged the shroud as a forgery, even as it has been dated back to the 14th century via carbon dating. This was the first time the Shroud of Turin first appeared in the historical record.
Nevertheless, scientists have as well tried using the shroud to ascertain Jesus’s DNA. The problem is that even if the Shroud of Turin which allegedly has the bloodied face of Jesus and was moved from Judea in A.D. 30 or 33, happens to be true, it has come in contact with many people as such getting the DNA from there may be very hard.
The Possibility of Getting the DNA of Jesus Using John the Baptist’s bones
That the scientists would have to grapple with as they try to find Jesus’s DNA using these bones is that having being discovered more than 500 years after the death of John The Baptist, is the bones are actually true, they must have been contaminated, meaning the likelihood that they would tell anything we should trust is very little.
Another thing is the fact that for one to hold on to DNA result, you should be able to compare it with another DNA or relic that is established. What this means is you cannot bring one DNA and claim it to also be the DNA of another person.
Finally, it has been reported that the DNA of the discoverer of the bones have been found on the bones. Does that ring any bells to you? That means there could as well be the DNA of many other people that have come in contact with the bones on it.
At the end of the day, these attempts leave us all with more questions than answers.
Could this just be another hoax or could it end up saying something about the modern descendants of the family of Jesus? How accurate can it be? These and more are the questions we can never tell.
