If you do not have body odor, you must have known someone who has it. Either way, we all know what it can do, and how bad it can be. And since no one can tell you when it’s you, the newly launched Kunkun body wants to do the smelly job of letting you know.
Developed by a Japanese tech company, the Kunkun body is a pocket-sized detector which allows people to self-test their sweaty exteriors for three categories of smell. It connects to a smartphone app through the Bluetooth that divulges the potentially ominous results in a suitably discreet manner.
Almost the size of a tape recorder, the device is designed to help people in Japan know how the smell as a result of the hot weather of the country which increases the chances of body smell.
Kunkun means sniff in Japanese, hence the Kunkun body means sniff body. It helps you sniff out the smell from four locations: near the head, behind the ear, under the armpit, and around the feet.
The piece is designed by Konica Minolta Japan’s business innovation center after a group of men came up with the idea since they were unable to find any such device that could help them measure how they smelt.
According to Daisuke Koda, who is the incubation lead at the center, seeing the challenge people are having and the fact that no one has a solution, they decided to come up with the Kunkun Body.

The device is already being sold in Japan, and the company is for now not looking at taking it to other markets around the world. Early buyers in the country are given a discount on the recommended retail price of 30,000 yen (US$265 or £206) and the product would be delivered later this year.

Kunkun body is not the first device that seeks to help with smelly bodies, most especially in Japan. Sony had as well tried it with the release of a portable aroma diffuser called Aromastic. What it does is to allow users select which scent they want to be emitted in their vicinity.
