RECENT UPDATE
In November 2018, Econet announced its decision to revamp the Kwese TV experience. This revamping was geared towards removing most of the third party channels and focusing on its own free-to-air channel, Kwese Free Sports, a platform for demanding videos online called Kwese iflix and also Kwese Play. These three services were to be the new face of Kwese TV. In line with this, customers who had subscribed for November and beyond were promised a full refund.
It was also announced that plans were in the pipeline for the creation of Kwese original content and programming upon the establishment of Kwese Studios. This shocker came 18 months after itsstart-upp in 2017 May.
This strategy was designed to keep Kwese TV in line with the digital innovations around the world while maintaining Econet Media’s lead in broadcasting innovation. This shutdown at the time of its announcement was praised by many as a smart and wise decision. As it will see Kwese TV compete with lesser services and give them an edge when others finally make the move.
