First, how do you know it’s time to call it quits with your old device?
Here’s what I’ll say…
When her wahala has gone overboard and you can’t even feel the sauce anymore. As the years sweep by so does her sensitivity. You would have to tap and swipe recurrently and more vigorously before she would sluggishly respond to your commands. You’d wonder what happened to submission. And to think that her looks are nowhere near pretty these days. The web cracks artistically woven across her screen are no longer a delight. Neither are the trace of bruises on her edges. All those bumps and falls must have taken their toll on her. Unreliable battery life, random shutdowns, low camera resolution, terrible audio settings, slow internet connectivity… I could go on but I’d rather not. The point is… it may be time to call it quits and get yourself a new device.
While you’re at it, you may want to try your hands on a Samsung smartphone. They are one of the best hotties in the Android market. Let’s start with a little retrospect. Samsung began its journey in 1938 with the Samsung SH-100. Only a few thousand sales were made in Korea. Small beginnings I must say. The Samsung brand found its way into Europe with the SGH-200 and SGH-600 in September I998. The big break came in 2009 with the emergence of the Samsung Galaxy. It kicked off with the A series of mobile phones, then the S series and trailed down to the Note series. Suffice it to say that its been quite a delightful uphill trip for this brand.
Now, with the numerous available options in the Samsung family deciding which one is best for you can become a challenge.
Tips for choosing Samsung Phones
1. SIZE
Galaxy S5 mini is everything portable. It measures 131.10 × 64.80 × 9.10 in height, width and thickness. It weighs 120.00grams. Its screen size measures 4.50inches. Now that’s a phone you don’t need both hands to operate. However, if you like them big you can go for the Galaxy Note 9 with a screen size of 6.4 inches. The Galaxy S8 and S9 also come in good sizes with screen sizes of 5.80 inches. Their dimensions measuring 148.9 × 68.10 ×8.00mm and 147.7 × 68.7 × 8.5mm respectively.
2. DURABILITY
“Dog is man’s best friend” whoever made this statement has probably never used a smartphone in his life. Just like MTN, your smartphone is with you everywhere you go. Thus, it’s only a matter of time before the usual hazards begin to kick in. It falls on the ground, you spill a drink on it or someone sits on it. You would obviously want a phone that can stand the test of time.
The Galaxy S8 Active has proven itself in a range of versatility tests to be Samsung’s most durable phone. Its screen system is designed with a flexible super AMOLED display. This plastic-like coating makes the screen scatter resistant. It has a Gorilla Glass 5 and a replaceable polycarbonate outer layer with a projected bumper which provides protection against shock and abrasion.
3. PROCESSOR
You may also want a smartphone has a high processing speed. Samsung Galaxy S7 has a 1.6GHz octa-core processor which is nowhere near the 1.9GHz octa-core powered processor of the Galaxy S8. But then comes the Galaxy Note 9 processor with octa-core specifications 2.7GHz, quad-core, M3 Mongoose + 1.7 GHz and Cortex A55. Samsung Galaxy S II has a dual core processor of 1.2 GHz (GT-19100, GT-19100G, SHW-M250S/K/L) and 1.5 Qualcomm Scorpion (GT-19210, SGH-T989).
4. CAMERA
For best picture quality Galaxy S9 Plus is the go to. It has two back cameras and both sensors has a resolution power of 12MP. It also has a front camera of 8 MP (f/1.7). Plus its camera app is easy to operate with an automatic mode. That’s right! It can automatically recognize a beautiful scene and adjust the settings to get the best shot. The main sensor is hardly limited by poor lightening with an aperture of f/1.5. 1t also comes with the Samsung’s new Dual Aperture Technology.
This gives a comfortable switch from the f/1.5 (for low light) to f/2.4 which reduces overexposure in bright light. It pulls in 28% more light with 30% less noise. It also allows photos to be composed of 12frames instead of 3. The second camera has features that permit bokeh-rich photography. These are photos with parts of the image blurred while other parts are in focus. Now that’s the beauty of photography.
5. BATTERY
If you are a heavy phone user who are always found clicking away on your device; you will definitely need a smartphone with reliable battery life. When it comes to longest-lasting battery life the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 is preferred. Its battery life supersedes that of Galaxy Note 8 by 15 minutes. It has a battery life of 11hrs26mins in a single charge.
All thanks to its 4000mAH power pack. The Samsung Note 8 offers a battery power of 3300mAH while Galaxy S8 runs on 3000 mAH. Samsung S9 and S9 Plus has a battery life of 3000mAH and 3500mAH respectively. These are still good depending on your choice.
6. STORAGE
Phone storage capacity has become of vital importance lately. Ah! With those interesting video clips and comedy skits trending on the internet or is it those beautiful Ankara designs you would love to screenshot and save in your phone. Be rest assured that Samsung is equal to the task.

However, Galaxy Note 9 seems to be leading with an internal storage space of 512GB and 8GB of RAM. This is surprising twice the storage capacity of iPhone X. Way to go Samsung!
7. EXTRA FEATURES
There are many other interesting features associated with Samsung smartphones. There is the Samsung Pay which helps you make a payment any terminal including those who claim they do not accept mobile payment. It even offers a cash refund for using Samsung Pay with certain retailers. Another interesting feature is the split –screen which allows you to utilize several apps at the same time.
