On one hand, science is feeding us with a lot of things that would make us very lazy and not willing to do anything, and on another, it is designing robots that would take over our jobs. Even though many of us have come to take all these for granted, these robots that are now set to become a serious competition have already geared up.
There are many jobs robots are taking over that you can guess rightly, but there are also many others that are strange are completely odd because we have always believed that such jobs are meant only for humans.
Here are some jobs robots are taking over:
Funeral Rites
For one to say a prayer for you, one should be of the same religion as yourself, or at least believe in the existence of a god. Interestingly though, Japanese are now using robots to say burial rites for their loved ones that have passed from this life.
The robot named pepper was created by the SoftBank Group Corp and its specific duty is to serve as the Buddhist during funerals because the cost of hiring a real priest is too expensive for a lot of people to pay.
This 4 feet tall robot will chant sutras while tapping the drum as it takes charge of funeral rites for a cost of 50,000 yen. This is significantly cheap when you consider that when using a human being, you may end up spending up to a million Yen to bury a dead person.
Interestingly enough, there are up to a thousand of the Pepper robots out there, but not all are designed for this purpose.
Baseball fans
Because it is sometimes very hard to get people to come and cheer a team, Hanwha Eagles, a Korean baseball club, has decided to invest in Robots which they bring in to come and cheer the team in place of people.
The team which had been struggling to win games had decided that the best way forward was to ensure that players are always motivated when they play, and that is the reason behind these robots. Just as people cheer, chant, wave, and even celebrate, so too, these robots are programmed to behave in the same manner. In fact, there is nothing that the bots cannot do as far as being fans is concerned.
Babies
In Japan, the country is scared that soon the population will hit a very bad place because people no longer give birth to children. Because of this, the country is seeing more of older people than younger people. In order to encourage people to give birth, baby-sized robots and others that are smaller, are designed to get people to give birth.
These baby robots, Kirobo Mini behave in the same manner as babies and the aim is to get emotional connection restored and kick in the maternal instincts of women.
Food Critics
Because of the many imitations of the cuisines of Thailand online, the government got frustrated and decided to find a way of handling that with what is known as the “e-Delicious.” What it does is to evaluate any Thai cuisine by measuring its chemical components. Although this turned out to be a disappointment for the Thai people because they were expecting something that would actually taste the food.
Comforting the dying
This robot which is known as the Last Moment Robot is designed to comfort people who are about to die. While many people will fault this since people about to die are thought to be better when surrounded by loved ones, the creator of the robot, Dan Chen said that as a result of the cruelty of life and the lack of human support/social connections, “the robot becomes something that you can trust/depend on. It could give you the ‘placebo effect’ of comfort.”
Lifting Patients
Sometimes, it can be extremely difficult for sick people to leave their beds to either rest or even go to the restroom. This is the problem that the Riba II (Robot for Interactive Body Assistance) was created. It is a robot that can help carry the sick or elderly around. Even though this may seem like a task that any other robot can perform, the Riba II is special because it is very sensitive to the plight of the elderly and the sick.
Making Robots
You will think that one job that will be left for humans will be the making of robots. Unfortunately, that is completely not true. There are robots that have been designed to help in the creation of other robots in Japan. These robots are able to come up with 50 new robots every day.
Created by researchers from the University of Cambridge, they are able to come up with designs and keep improving on those that have already been developed.
Music Composers
Don’t be surprised when the next Thriller is released by a robot somewhere. This is as among the other strange jobs robots are taking over from humans surprisingly enough is composing music. These robots, Shimon which have been designed by researchers at the Georgia Tech is able to compose and even play its own music.
Shimon, was given more than 5,000 complete songs, two million motifs, riffs and short passages of music and then it was asked to compose and perform its own music. It is able to produce songs across various genres such as pop, classical, jazz and more.
Chefs
Someone’s next meal somewhere is being cooked by a robot. That is one of the jobs that scientists have assigned to them. The robotic kitchen, the first of its kind, was created by Moley and it is able to follow a menu that it has been designed with to cook for people.

Cooking with the skills of a master chef, it is a replication of the human hands that and cooks in a better way than a lot of people. According to Moley. “The cooking skills of Master Chef Tim Anderson, winner of the BBC Master Chef title were recorded on the system – every motion, nuance and flourish – then replayed as his exact movements through the robotic hands.”
Sales Representative
Before now, when you call the customer care lines, what you will get are pre-recorded messages that cannot be conversed to. What is obtainable now are robots that have been designed to serve as sales representatives. Some of these robots are being used as sales assistants in different places.
For the sales representative, however, the robot which is known as Samantha West has become very popular for its telemarketing for Premier Health Agency, even though it will insist that it is human when talking over the phone.
