In November 2016, the high dreams of a young Nigerian aspiring filmmaker, Willibrord Emmanuel Wang, took another turn after he was diagnosed with a kidney infection that left both his Kidneys damaged.
From then on, the 22-year-old who was raised by his grandmother after losing both his parents before the age of 6, has been on dialysis twice a week.
Fondly called Willie by friends, Willibrord Emmanuel Wang is the last child in the family of 6 and was born and bred in Plateau state, Nigeria.
As revealed by a Facebook page on his behalf, Willie graduated from Sele Nei Private School in Jos and hopes to proceed to the National Film Institute to study a course relating to movie production. The dreams are now, however fading as a result of his condition.
Since he was diagnosed with the disease at the Dee Medical Center in Jos and was referred to JUTH, Willies family has been trying to source out funds to have the lifesaving surgery done.
Nevertheless, the little money that have been realized through little solicitations were always put back into the dialysis which has to be done twice each week, at the cost of 25,000 Naira for each session.
Despite the fact that our checks revealed that the surgery could be done in Nigeria at the cost of over 10 million Naira, what still remains a challenge is how the funds could be raised.
Wiredbugs was able to confirm that Willie’s case is very genuine. Speaking with the very hopeful and grateful patient, we learned that through little online campaigns, a few people are beginning to make various contributions even though there is still a very long way to go.
