Egypt
Egypt Charts the course in military technology in Africa. The country has over 10,000 armoured tanks, some of which it built itself while it bought others from countries including US and Russia. It also has over 2000 MRAPS, over 10,000 infantry vehicles, and artillery and missiles. Its air force has in stock aircraft from countries such as china, US, Russia, and some it created including the Aérospatiale Gazelle. It also has UAVs and target drones. The Egyptian navy is furnished with great air crafts, ships, submarines, and other great fleets.
Algeria
With 512,000 active personnel and 400,000 active reserve personnel, Algeria is the second most technologically advanced military in Africa. The country has a land military system that is made up of 975 main battle tanks, light tanks, and tank destroyers. It has 1,898 Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), 250 Self-Propelled Guns (SPGs), 350 towed artillery, and 148 Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRSs). Its Naval Power is enhanced by 69 aircraft carriers and auxiliaries, 38 coastal defence craft 8 frigates, 6 submarines, and 6 corvettes. The country’s Air Power is as well, well-structured with 451 total aircraft, 225 transport aircraft, 210 helicopters, 99 fixed-wing attack aircraft, 89fighters/interceptors and 64 trainer aircraft.
Ethiopia
With as much as $340,000,000 as defence budget, there is no reason why the country should not be the third most technologically advanced country in Africa. The land forces of the country has 2,300 tanks, 800 AFVs, 700 towed artillery, 183 MLRSs, and 85 SPGs. Its air power is furnished with a total of 80 aircrafts, 24 fighters/interceptors, 24 fixed wing attack aircraft, 33 helicopters, 14 trainer aircraft, and 8 attack helicopters.
Nigeria
Although the most populous Black Country in the world, and the most populous in Africa, the Giant of Africa only has 130,000 active frontline personnel and 32,000 reserve personnel. The country has 148 tanks, 1,420 AFVs, 339 towed artillery, 30 MLRSs, and 35 SPGs. Its Air Powers boasts of 105 total aircraft, 53 transport aircraft, 38 helicopters, 32 trainer aircraft, 10 fighters/interceptors, and 9 attack helicopters. For its vast waters, the country has 75 aircraft carriers, 48 coastal defence craft, and 3 frigates.
South Africa
Most infantry weapons used by the South African Army, have the country as the origin. It has armoured fighting vehicles, utility, engineering and support vehicles, and rocket and anti-aircraft artillery, as well as other great equipment. The country’s air force has aircrafts made from countries such as US, UK, France, and South Africa. The country’s navy has great naval weapons systems which could compete with other countries around the world. It has Air Force maritime aircraft operated by the South African Air Force. The country also boasts of great combat and support fleets.
Angola
With over $4 billion as military budget, Angola has well-fashioned firehouse to grab it the 6th most technologically advanced military in Africa. The countries land forces are equipped with 244 tanks, 538 AFVs, 332 towered artillery, 115 MLRSs, and 28 SPGs. Its air power boasts of 273 aircraft, 128 transport aircraft, 105 helicopters, 78 fixed wing attack aircraft, 60 fighters/interceptors, 48 trainer aircraft, and 15 attack helicopters. The country’s naval strength is enhanced by 57 carriers and 38 coastal defence craft.
Morocco
Morocco has 200,000 active frontline personnel and 150,000 reserve frontline personnel. The country’s land forces are equipped with 1,215 tanks, 2,348 AFVs, 448 SPGs, 192 towed artillery, and 72 MLRSs. Morocco’s air strength is emboldened with 158 transport aircraft, 128 helicopters, 81 trainer aircraft, 50 fighters/interceptors, and 50 fixed-wing attack aircraft. It also has 18 coastal defence craft, 6 frigates, 1 and corvette for its waters.

Sudan
110,000 is the number of active frontline personnel Sudan has, with 102,500 reserve frontline personnel. The land system of the country has 330 tanks, 415 AFVs, 750 towed artillery, 25 MLRSs, and 16 SPGs. Its air power is quite enhanced, with 64 helicopters, 52 transport aircraft, 84 fixed wing attack aircraft, fighters/interceptors and trainer aircraft. Its naval power is built upon 18 aircraft carriers and auxiliaries, and 12 coastal defence craft.
Libya
The war going on in Lydia has greatly changed its military technology. While it has been good before the war, it became better. The country now has 340 main battle, light and destroyer tanks. It also has 699 armoured fighting vehicles, and 150 towed artillery. The country also has 100 Multiple-Launch Rocket Systems and 50 Self-Propelled Guns (SPGs). Its naval strength which includes all known artilleries and aircraft carriers is put at 5. There is only one frigate and one marine warfare.
The Democratic Republic of Congo
While it only has a defence budget of $162 million, and 155,000 active frontline personnel, Democratic Republic of Congo has got itself as the 10th most technologically advanced military in Africa. The country’s land system has 250 tanks, 201 armoured fighting vehicles, and 100 towed artillery. Its water power boasts of 20 aircraft carrier, and coastal defence craft. The air power of the country brags of 36 transport aircraft, 27 helicopters, 8 attack helicopters, 6 fixed wing attack aircraft and 2 fighters/interceptors.
Kenya
While Kenya is one of those African countries that is hardly heard, the country’s military technology is great. It has close to 600 armoured fighting vehicles, 76 tanks, and 25 towed-artillery, tanks. Its air power is made of a total of 132 aircraft, 62 helicopters, 41 transport aircraft, fighters/interceptors, trainer aircrafts and fixed-wing attack aircrafts. The country’s naval strength is enhanced by aircraft carriers and coastal defence craft.
Tunisia
The country has great land systems which include 679 armoured fighting vehicles, 162 towed-artillery, tanks and self-propelled guns. Its Air Power is made of 141 total aircraft, 89 transport aircraft, fighters/interceptors, trainer aircraft and fixed-wing attack aircraft. Its naval strength is however, not the best there is. The country only has 26 coastal defence craft and 6 mine warfare. It does not have submarines, corvettes, or destroyers.
